Teacher / Instructor in Construction Machinery

In the fall of 2024, we launched the Construction and Civil Engineering Program with a vocational track for Construction Machinery Operators. The program was developed in collaboration with ME-skolan AB, a subsidiary of the industry and employer organization Maskinentreprenörerna (ME), which is part of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise. We work together to ensure high-quality education and to maximize the employability of our students after graduation. We are now looking for two more vocational teachers or instructors who want to help continue developing the program during our third academic year.

As a teacher/instructor at Realgymnasiet, you create conditions for learning and guide students based on a given educational concept and the program's educational goals. You plan, implement, and evaluate the teaching. Furthermore, you continuously assess goal fulfillment and communicate this with the student together with the mentor. You work with colleagues in teams and in close collaboration with the mentor and student health at the school.

Job Description - The Role of Vocational Teacher

As a teacher/instructor, you work alongside other teachers at Realgymnasiet to create conditions for learning. Together with your colleagues, you teach students based on a given educational concept and the program's educational goals. You will primarily work with construction machinery but also with tasks related to construction and civil engineering. The work consists of both practical and theoretical elements as well as documentation. You will have educational material developed by ME-skolan as a starting point, which you will adapt and work with, among other things, in our learning platform Canvas.

Currently, Realgymnasiet in Karlstad offers education in the Natural Resource Program with specializations in horse care, animal care, and nature tourism. Starting in the fall of 2024, we will also offer the Construction and Civil Engineering Program with a focus on Land and Construction, and as the only school in Karlstad, we have the vocational track for Construction Machinery Operators.

We are expanding with two full-time positions. The positions are permanent and will start with a 6-month probationary period.

Qualifications

We expect you to have several years of experience in the industry, preferably as a machine operator or in the construction and civil engineering sector. You may also have experience as a teacher or instructor, and we would like to see that you have experience working with apprentices or APL students. A teaching license is an advantage.

We are looking for someone who feels confident in the role of teacher and preferably has good knowledge or the willingness to learn about the school's mission, current curriculum, and other governing documents. You will be assigned a mentor during your introduction. We expect you to have the ability to plan your teaching and involve students in the design process. As a person, you believe in students' willingness and ability to succeed and are always looking for ways to develop your teaching to provide your students with the best conditions.

Furthermore, you have the ability to structure and drive your processes forward, and you work towards common goals. You have good pedagogical insight as you can adapt your way of conveying your message based on your audience and can easily change your perspective and approach as needed.

You work well with others and have the ability to relate to them in a responsive and smooth manner. You are outgoing and socially active in professional contexts. You create contacts and maintain relationships with colleagues, our partners, and APL placements. You are passionate about your subject and are happy to use digital resources that help increase understanding of the developments in the industries our students are training for. You are flexible and eager to take on new challenges.

We expect you to have a B driver's license and preferably access to your own car as you will visit students at their APL placements.
